It’s safe to say that never has there been so much history as there is now.
Most of it is a matter of opinion. Much of it is really hard to understand. Half of it is probably wrong. And a lot of it, frankly, isn’t very interesting. So what’s needed is a totally fresh, different, exciting look at… The Interesting Bits. History with all the boring bits taken out. The good stuff.
In 8 fast-paced episodes History The Interesting Bits uses animation, motion graphics, archive and recreations to reveal the funny, disturbing, tragic, ridiculous, fascinating and, just occasionally, preposterous stories that are all too often hidden under piles of dry facts, dates, monarchs, politicians, wars and treaties.
Yes, you’ll find out how a shot fired in Sarajevo in 1914 led to 20 million deaths, how many US Presidents have been lawyers, and who went to war with Zanzibar in 1896 for less than 45 minutes.
But you’ll also discover that Isaac Newton lost the equivalent of £1.5 million in a 1720 version of a Ponzi scheme; that the Scilly Isles were at war with the Dutch until 1986, that Edison executed an elephant and that President Calvin Cooledge Shared the White House with a racoon.
Thoroughly researched and with added insights from a diverse range of experts, historians, our house statistician and even a psychologist we’re looking at history from totally new angles, finding fresh links and patterns, and examining the bits that rarely get to see the light of day.
This is entertainment for people who love their history, and factual TV for people who prefer it served with a slice of wit. Either way, it’s an informative, compelling, intelligent, witty and completely different take on history.
Each episode takes one big question and looks at the lessons of history as if they were a ‘How To’ guide. What qualities or traits does history tell us we might need in order to be a US President, or a brilliant inventor, or a great lover, or fabulously rich, or an infamous spy, or a victorious warrior or a fiery revolutionary, or a very lucky *&!?*@* who never gets caught for anything?
We’re about to find out…
